An important message from Sherry Gummer, HCRTA President
Dear HCRTA members,
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
I hope that each and every one of you will be celebrating this year in a safe and comfortable way. We are all extremely challenged but, as teachers, we are used to finding unique ways of conquering challenges and even though we are not in the classroom we can still put our training to use for overcoming this challenge.
Besides wishing you a happy holiday, I need to convey some information from IRTA as well as give you information about our local chapter. This newsletter will be long and will contain several attachments you may want to access. And, last, but not least, I will present a Salute to our Veterans since we were not able to do so at an in person meeting like we usually do.
IRTA
First, IRTA has sent us a request for submitting our CASA volunteers for recognition at our annual Representative Assembly in June. Please contact me if you are a CASA volunteer so I can submit your name.
Second, IRTF is conducting a fund drive which will provide matching funds for $50 donations sent in by Dec 31. These donations provide a permanent funding source for grants and scholarships awarded by the Foundation. This is a good way to double your donation amount. Please see the IRTF attachment below for the donation form.

DUES - Thank you for submitting your dues this year. About 3/4 of our members have paid to date and we hope to receive dues from the rest of you at your earliest convenience. If you have misplaced your yellow card you simply need to send a $15 check to Linda Szewc with your name, address, phone numbers, and email and she will update your membership and send you your 2020 blue membership card. Linda’s address is 354 Vinewood Dr. Brownsburg, IN 46112. Hopefully by March or May we will be able to enjoy each other’s company again at an in person meeting.
VOLUNTEER HOURS - We know that volunteer hours will not be as numerous this year due to the pandemic but we appreciate any that you submit. Some of you have already sent in volunteer hours and we thank you for doing so. Please continue to record hours thru Dec 31 and send in whatever you have at that time to Jane Tietz at 1148 Richwood Drive, Avon, IN 46123 or by phone to 317-272-4218. We will be calling right after New Year’s to make sure we receive all of the volunteer hours you have to submit.
TREASURER REPORT - Please see below for the reports for September and November.
VETERANS SALUTE - Since we were not able to have an in person meeting in November, I wanted to make sure we still honored our Veterans. I tried to talk to each and every member over the last two weeks and was able to connect to almost everyone. I apologize if I have missed anyone and I appreciate the prompt call backs from the many voice mails I left. Our membership is quite well represented in military service. Most of our members had parents and grandparents who served due to our country being involved in numerous conflicts during their generations and we certainly salute them and offer our extreme gratitude for the freedom they preserved for us. During our generation we have 6 members, 29, spouses,12 sons, 6 grandsons, and 1 granddaughter and her husband who have defended our freedom which totals 55 military personnel within the immediate families of our members. The numbers in each branch of the military were Army-19, Navy-12, Air Force-12, Marines-6, National Guard-6, and Coast Guard-1. The following is an alphabetical listing of first our members who are Veterans followed by an alphabetical list of our members and their family members who are Veterans.
